The Unexpected Happens, Especially On The Road

We have all been in sticky situations we never could have expected. For me traveling to competitions hours away from home every weekend this past fall, I was bound for some right? Knowing my luck I was bound for a few this past season.

On the day of my finale competition I hit a very unexpected situation. All day I had a killer migraine from stress and not sleeping.  After our show I felt really anxious about scores, since the performance was not our best. At pictures I was about to pass out. After awards, we placed third out of the whole coast! We had our typical speech, but I was really not doing so well. I ended up having a panic attack, throwing up, then passing out in the bathroom. I was incredibly dehydrated and my sugar was extremely low. Lets just say when we were stuck at burger king for almost 4 hours because they couldn't make food quickly for over 100 people I was not extremely happy.

Lessons I hope you and I have learned from my mistakes drink more water, tell others(not just your bus buddy) you don't feel well ,and pack extra food.

Here are some great snacks that travel really well-
  • Pretzels
  • Apple sauce pouches
  • Candy(not the best for you, but whateves! lol)
  • Nut butter singles(love yah Sunbutter)
Things that don't pack well-
  • Yogurt (please, take my word for it!)
  • Bananas
  • Chocolate

GF&AF Expo

So this past month I had the privilege to go as a blogger to the Gluten Free and Allergen Free Expo! It is defiantly one of my favorite weekends of the year!

One of my favorite booths was the Schar kids area! They had story time, gluten free play dough, and crafts for the kids. This expo is so family friendly,,which is a huge bonus!

What I love most of all is when you are waiting in line and see the children's faces when they are told that all the food in this place is safe. Young kids with allergies or celiac are taught that in most places the food won't be safe.

I even got to meet some of my readers!

Over all had an amazing time! That weekend marked my last free weekend before I started my competition/game season! (Might be currently writing this on my way to my first full show!)

Gluten Free Makeup-Red Apple Lipstick

Ahh,I miss the days when I could go to the Mac counter a buy the newest gem to add to my collection of lip products. I always loved lip gloss, lipstick, lip balm, and anything related makeup wise to your lips.

As a kindergartner my favorite thing to carry around was my lip smackers. I had the gloss, jelly, and balm in all colors and flavors.

When I went gluten free, the day after I went to the library and got a book on celiac. One the first page was a pictures of thing that have hidden gluten. One of those you guessed it.....lipstick! So not only did I learn I had to give up my beloved Chinese food but my lipstick too.

So as time went on,and my lip product  collection at an all time low,I found Red Apple Lipstick company!

Last year at the Gluten Free & Allergen Free Expo in NJ I got to experience there amazing products. Although they have lipstick in their name they offer so much more! Their products range from lipstick to now mascara! My favorite product from them is the Mint 2 Be lipgloss. It's not sticky or gooey. It has just the right amount of color and an amazing minty smell and taste! I own this lipgloss in Fuzzy Navle(a peachy color) but they have other fun colors to match your taste.

I can't wait for this week end to visit one of my favorite tables at the GF&AF Expo... The Red Apple Lipstick Booth!

My Must Haves in the Kitchen for on the Go!

This summer has been crazy! I've barely been home or had any free time.I went on my first servant trip for a little less than a week(next blog post will be on how I survived.) The rest of my time has been spent at my high school! I know what everyone is thinking! You,a teenager, spent your summer at school? I'm crazy!

I have had a summer filled with a very physically demanding sport.....drumline. I spend more then 12 hours a week at rehearsals, let alone working out at the gym,and practicing at my house.

In any sport what is something you have to do? Fuel your body! For those with allergies or celiac it can be easy,or hard. You have to pick which you want.

Over these long weeks I have developed a system of what I need to keep in the house and especially what to stay far from!

Thing I always have in my fridge-
•WATER
•Chicken breasts (baked over the weekend)
•Turkey Bacon(already cooked. I use Applegate Farms. They are all natural, gluten free, and no bad stuff!)
•Brown Rice
•Quinoa
•Kale(sautéed with onion and spices!)
•Lemons
•Fruit(tangerines are awesome!)
•Broccli/other veggies
•Watermelon
•Gatorade-
Ok,I know it is bad for you. I try to eat healthy and natural as possible. It's the one thing I need! I try to limit my food dye intake, since in larger amounts have caused me to have migraines. We all have those few things we know arnt good for you,yet we still them enjoy, this is one of mine!(I do enjoy gluten free fruit candy.)Everything is good in moderation!

Thing I always have in my pantry-
•Nutella(trust me on this! A tablespoon with a plum after giving 150% on the field for over 4 hours and running 3/4 of a mile is heaven!)
•Natural PB/Sunbutter(for PB I love Justin's brand!)
•Multi grain/seed crackers(Vans gluten free crackers are my thing!)
•Tasty brand organic wild berry fruit snacks(no corn syrup, allergen free/gluten free, and all natural!)
•Kind bars(I love all flavors)
•Almonds
•Brown rice pasta

Things you can avoid(are know to cause probs for athletes or have tried and not had a success full practice)-

•Dairy- known to cause stomach problems in heat!(please! I am warning you!)
•Eggs-upset stomach
•Greasy food-self explanatory
•Your allergen-come on people! Must I say this!
•Soda

Take what you will from this,I can't control your life. This is what works for me:)

Nine Things Everyone Should Know

Hear are nine things everyone should know about people with allergies or celiac.

1) We are just like you!
Even if we can't eat a slice of bread or fish, doesn't mean we are subhuman or not as good as you!

2) We can't help it!-
We don't have control over what we can't and can't have. So stop giving us a hard time.

3) We have working eyes and ears!-
Yes we see your looks in the store when we buy a gluten free product or allergen free one. We hear your comments and snickering. We don't like it, get over yourself(and see number 2.)

4) We have lives!-
Yep we can go to parties, movie, and date others. We don't live under rocks!

5) The AF/GF community is not a cult or gang!-
This is self explanatory! :D

6) We can be anything we want to be!-
Hard to believe right, we can be teachers, moms and dads, kids, doctors, chefs, anything!

7) It's not a FAD!-
OMG! The people that think this....you need education!

8) Look out for us!-
Nothing is more sweet than a friend looking out for another! It makes our day(most of the time.)

9) We don't hate you!-
We only dislike you when you mess with us directly or our AF/GF family! So don't mess with the "gang."

Great Breakfast Ideas and Tips

Well is summer for most people( I still have seven days of school.)On that note congrats to all the grads! I can't believe that I'm graduating from middle school in a few days!

With summer starting a lot of teens and kids go to camp,or have summer sports(or lay on the couch, not a bad plan! I would if I could.) With summer activities many are more active and in the hot sun, so breakfast can make or break your day.

This summer I will have really early band practice. We practice in the hot summer heat. Marching band is a very strenuous sport believe it or not. On average we burn more calories in our shows than football players in a game. So therefore a great breakfast is the key to success!(FYI,look you probably learned something before you even got half way through.)

Just a few reminders-
-DO NOT EAT/DRINK MILK PROUDUCTS(it will make you sick with the heat!!!)
-Don't drink sugary or carbonated drinks with breakfast
-Eat some protien and carbs(Energy peoples!)

Some ideas-
-Gluten free pancakes(made the night before) with a little PB or nut butter(I love Justin's Almond butter) and a piece of fruit.
-Eggs with spinach and tomatoes, and a piece of fruit.
It doesn't even have to be breakfast food!

-Brown rice, veggies, and some chicken breast! Add a piece of fruit and you set.

Who says you can't have healthy leftovers from the night before, right!

Comment below some of your own ideas!

Where have I been!

Sadly no I was not on the moon(I know bummer.) I have spent the last few months at doctors, emergency rooms, and at school. It wasn't for celiac(or food allergies.) Which could be taken as a good or bad thing.

Back in October(29th to be exact) I fell down twenty something concrete stairs. I don't remember much about it to be honest. I hit my head between 3-5 times and slid down on my back. It has been a roller coaster of scary moments and pain.

I had to take a break to collect my thoughts and figure out how to move on.Wail I am not recovered and now am comming to the realization that I will never be the same. I have come to the conclusion that I cannot just stop doing the things that I love(aka blogging.) I have to learn to live with the constant pain that I am in.

Okay this is now when it gets cheesey. One of my favorite quotes now that I firmly believe in is " Without pain,we couldn't know joy." Take that quote as you will....it can apply to anything. With the pain comes the joy(I think I haven't came to any conclusions yet!)

I am learning to live with any obstacle life throws at me. Including a concussion (now post concussion syndrome) and a back injury(now will more than likely be chronic pain.)

Thank you for being patient with me for not posting. I am going to try to be more constent.

What kind of post do you what to see on here?

Kind Snacks Review!

Okay I may have a slight obsession.....Kind bars. I love love love all types of bars! they are great for on the go,school, work, anywhere and everywhere. i have one in my bookbag, purse,my mom's bag,her car,oh and at least a few in my pantry at all times!

Some of the greatest pluses of kind bars are
  • Lower in sugar then most(they average around 5 grams)
  • Good amount of protein
  • Huge section of flavors
  • They also make granola that is amazing too!
Go check out them at http://www.kindsnacks.com/

I was not sponsored in any way from kind snacks!
